We are thrilled to share the latest news regarding the Graskop Gorge Lift Company and Needles Safari Lodge, both of which recently reached significant milestones. These successes elevate individual businesses and enhance our region’s reputation as a premier destination for responsible tourism. Join us in celebrating these accomplishments that demonstrate the strength of our local tourism industry as we move forward through 2026. This recognition serves as a testament to the passion and hard work found throughout our membership.

This jewel was selected for recognition in the 2026 WTM Africa Responsible Tourism Awards. The awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 4 April 2026 in Cape Town. This prestigious recognition highlights the company’s commitment to responsible tourism, sustainable development and community empowerment along Mpumalanga’s iconic Panorama Route. The Graskop Gorge Lift Company will receive either a One-To-Watch, Silver or Gold Responsible Tourism Award at the event. Gold winners automatically qualify for the Global Responsible Tourism Awards later in 2026. Congratulations and all our fingers crossed!

Needles Safari Lodge Becomes Certified
Needles Safari Lodge has officially achieved Fair Trade Tourism (FTT) certification, joining a network of tourism businesses across Africa committed to making a positive difference for the communities and environments in which they operate. “As a proud South African business, we are committed to ensuring that every guest experience contributes to the long-term well-being of our region,” says Denis Goffinet, owner at the lodge, which is located in the Marloth Park conservancy. To achieve certification, the third-party auditor evaluated the lodge against more than 180 criteria across the FTT principles, through a process that included on-site staff and guest interviews, document reviews and field inspections. FTT Certification is an ongoing commitment and we applaud Denis on this achievement.
